Observation Tower Žalý

  • Stone observation tower built in 1892 
  • Beautiful view of the Krkonoše mountains from 1019 m above sea level
  • Only 50 m from the upper station of the cableway to Žalý 
  • Open from 10 to 16 o'clock (in favourable weather conditions)

Walking trails from the top of Žalý

Take the cableway to Žalý and go for a walk or a bike ride:

  • 1. Žalý — Rovinka — Janova hora — Herlíkovice, car park (length: 22 km)
  • 2. Žalý — Rovinka — Bubákov — Herlíkovice (length: 15 km)
  • 3. Žalý — Vrchlabí — Herlíkovice, car park (length: 14 km)
  • 4. Žalý — Möhwaldova bouda — lower station of the cableway (length: 3,5 km)

Sněžka

  • You can hike to the highest mountain in the Czech Republic for example from Špindlerova bouda (9.5 km)
  • Take the bus from Sněžka back to Špindlerův Mlýn or follow the marked trails

The spring of the Elbe

  • the mightiest river in Bohemia, the Elbe, springs at 1 386 m above sea level in peatlands in Labské Louky
  • Its is 1 122km long, 364.4 km of which is in the Czech Republic
  • Near Labská bouda, the Elbe forms a 40m waterfall to Labský Důl to continue to Dívčí Lávky and through a deep valley to Špindlerův Mlýn and the Krkonoše foothills

Museum in Jilemnice

  • maps the history of the west Krkonoše from the 13th century till the present day
  • includes an exhibition concerning the beginnings of Czech skiing (since 1914) and a unique movable nativity scene with sound effects

Krkonoše Museum

  • Located in Vrchlabí 
  • Permanent exhibition of the Krkonoše, including  historical collections, art, archaeological collections, botanical collections and zoological collections
  • Open year-round: from Tuesday to Sunday, 8–17

Bohemian Paradise

  • Romantic region by the Jizera river, less than 100 km to the north-east of Prague
  • Because of its diverse natural wonders and beautiful historic sights, this region was named Bohemian Paradise by the visitors of the spas in Sedmihorky in the 19th century

Trosky

  • The ruins of a caste in Bohemian Paradise from the 14th century that was owned by the Vartemberk family
  • Two basalt rock formations (lower called Baba (Old Woman), higher called Panna (Virgin))
  • The caste was besieged several times and the last time it was conquered was in 1648 by the Swedes

Dvůr Králové nad Labem ZOO

  • One of the largest and most beautiful zoos in Central Europe
  • Home to approximately 300 animal species, more than 2,300 specimen

Bozkov dolomite caves near Semily

  • One of the few accessible and also one of the largest dolomite cave systems in Bohemia
  • The caves are unique for their largest underground lake
